The Stewardship of Rest

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

— Matthew 11:28

Christian women are often gifted at caring for everyone else. We lead organizations, serve our churches, support our families, answer emails, solve problems, and carry responsibilities that few people ever see. Left unchecked, busyness quietly becomes a measure of our worth.

God offers a different way.

Rest is not the absence of responsibility. It is the intentional practice of trusting God with what He has entrusted to us. Healthy leaders prepare their teams, establish sustainable systems, and create space to step away—confident that God continues working even when they are resting.

When everything depends on us, we may have begun carrying responsibilities that God only asked us to steward.

This month, my family reminded me of that truth. Rather than traveling away, they came to visit me in the beautiful community I call home. We enjoyed a simple staycation together—creating memories, laughing, and being fully present with one another. It wasn't extravagant, but it was intentional. Those moments renewed my perspective and reminded me that making space for God, family, and rest is not a distraction from leadership. It is part of faithful leadership.
